bake CLI

The bake command runs tasks from your bakefile.py. Run bake --help to see all available commands and options.

Basic execution

bake <command> [args]

bake hello
bake build
bake test --verbose

Task arguments are typed CLI options, so bake test --help documents each task. See Commands.

Dry-run mode

Preview what would happen without executing:

bake -n build
bake --dry-run deploy

Commands print instead of running. See Context for how ctx.run respects dry-run.

Chaining commands

Run multiple commands sequentially:

bake -c lint test build

If any command fails, the chain stops.

Options

Override defaults when running bake:

bake --version                           # Show version
bake -f tasks.py build                   # Custom filename
bake -b my_bakebook build                # Custom bakebook object name
bake -C /path/to/project build           # Run from different directory

Option	Description
`--version`	Show version
`-f, --file-name <name>`	Custom bakefile filename (default `bakefile.py`)
`-b, --book-name <name>`	Custom bakebook object name (default `bakebook`)
`-C, --chdir <path>`	Change directory before running
`-c, --chain`	Chain commands
`-n, --dry-run`	Show what would run without executing
`-v` (repeatable)	Log verbosity, `-v` to `-vvv`
`--bake-log <levels>`	Per-module log levels (env `BAKE_LOG`)
`--log-pretty` / `--no-log-pretty`	Pretty vs JSON log format (env `BAKE_LOG_PRETTY`)
`--install-completion`	Install shell completion

Logging flags

-v / -vv / -vvv (env BAKE_LOG_VERBOSITY 0-3) control bakefile’s internal logs, plus per-module levels with --bake-log and format with --log-pretty. See Logging and Console Output for the full reference. This only affects logs, not console.echo, print, or command output.

Machine-readable docs

The docs site serves machine-readable endpoints alongside the HTML pages. bake --help and bakefile --help advertise these in their afterword:
